Slim Pickings…
My hike along the trek yesterday afternoon wasn’t too fruitful, in terms of collecting photographic material for this post or future posts anyway. Instead you’ll just have to digest my waffle only, or maybe not, I’ll put some older photos up to assist visually what I’m describing. If I have time.
It was warm, t-shirt n jeans warm, sunny, pretty calm, no wind, ideal conditions… but something was missing… the wonder and awe I usually get when I’m out there it seems.
Despite the weather, it didn’t feel summer, seeing the wildflowers seemingly on the way out, brought a bit of a disappointing air, and I suppose added to my withered aura.
Despite all of this I did see some sights, including five Swallows near the farm, circling vulture-like very high in the sky, I thought they must have migrated back to South Africa, I had totally convinced myself of this following a no-show on my last visit. But there they were, staying till October most likely, or at least five of them are.
Spotted the odd Butterfly, Speckled Wood, Peacock, and others too far to i.d.
Most of the journey was very squelchie and muddy underfoot, but wasn’t too bad,
my hiking boots seemed to pass the test this time.
I heard a few birds… spotted a couple of Wrens, both in different locations. Observed a pair of Blue tits collecting flies, Crane-flies and the like, from the edge of one of the Wheatfield’s to a hedgerow where the chicks were obviously nesting. Chased a Dragonfly with my lens, and tried effortlessly last night to get the tiny footage I did capture, to be slow enough to see, it didn’t turn out too great, but I’ll try and return next time with clear and precise film, the next time I see a Dragonfly anyway, make it a project sometime over the next year, I‘ll set about drawing up a timetable.
Good evening.
Apologies for no photos and the like (apart from the single Peacock Butterfly Photo).
