And he meandered wearily…
The Acorn, the fruit of the Oak and title of this site, wasn’t the only fruit I took photos of today, but I thought I’d save them and others I’ll be collecting, to create a slideshow, to replace the wildflower slideshow… sadly a victim of my computer crash. We‘ll do that next year.
Out on the trail again today… I can report that the Swallows are still about at the farm, I saw one, at least!
A much brighter day than of recent. Although, It had its moments of dullness.
Butterflies and the like, littered my path, Long-tailed tits were present at the start of my walk and there to greet me home, although in different locations but not that far apart, 2 hours between sightings.
Spotted from a distance a Brown hare, could only just about see its ears sticking out of the long grass, the camera showed a little bit more, hardly worth putting up, but to document my journey.

Podcast news...
Hopefully there’ll be another Acorn podcast episode along soon, working on the next show!

Buttereflies and Swallows

Of Butterflies and Swallows...
I decided to take a break today, downed tools and headed into the winds, to pick up the pieces… I needed to clear my head. I was only planning to maybe steal a few breaths from the rural air, and head home. But once I’d reached the other side of the fence I felt that I needed to meander that little bit further, till I hit the trail and came across some Swallows and Butterflies.

I decided to spend some of my Sunday trekking along the trail to the farm.
It was a glorious day, sunny and very warm. And perfect lighting for taking some photos. The fact that I took my tripod along proved my intent for some serious photography.
At the start of my trek back home, tired, fatigued and carrying a broken and as a result useless tripod, I heard some alarming birdsong.
I managed to see the bird, perched on a high branch squawking away. I couldn’t quite i.d it by its song, I reeled off some film, but could only manage to get its silhouette or it out of focus.
Both me and my tripod by now were tired and retired, so it was difficult to really concentrate on a bird situated high up, and to try and capture it with the right settings, before it flew out of sight, which it did then do. Alas I only got silhouettes in my photos of it, I had my binoculars, so I was able to see the birds plumage, and what plumage, it was a Goldfinch. I thought it must have been the pack of Swallows flying above and about the trees where the Goldfinch was that was alarming the it. And I would have left thinking that it was, or could have possibly been that. As well as taking some photos, I took some movie footage, but there’s a limit on my camera to how far I can zoom. Which isn’t that far, when compared to camera’s specifically designed for this purpose. But it was enough for me to see when I got back home, that the Goldfinch was actually shouting at some Alien Flies, it appears have returned! I spotted a big swarm of them a few trees down on my way home. They were swarming in and around the trees where the Goldfinch was. That explains the Swallows… they were obviously feasting on the Alien flies.

Meadow Browns...
I had to be content with using the video facility on my mobile phone, to shoot the films below. I wasn’t on a mission to shoot film today, so forgive any lack of quality. But when our paths cross…
Be expecting Badgers next… A very helpful chap pointed me in the direction of a sett not far from one of my routes, so I’ll try and make it a project. He also told me about the deer, which I’ve seen here before, and the foxes.

Meadow Brown Butterfly (above) taken this morning.

A few snaps taken on a recent amble into the farmland’s surrounding pathways, that boarder their immense crop fields, that this year is yielding wheat. I believe that they alternate the type of produce annually…
It wasn’t a photographic mission, as such, just a bit of a mooch about the meadow and wildflower… if anything interesting crossed my path then I’d focus my lens in its direction. I’ve left a lot of snaps out, and film. Maybe later.
I won’t mention Friday’s saunter… it’s a little embarrassing!

Butterfly Blue...
Went for a short stroll today, just to get away from it all for an hour or so, and breath in the country air…
Spotted a Kestrel hovering just above my head, but by the time I’d switched settings on my camera it was gone! Hopefully I’ll see it again someday. I have a distant photo of it taken in the same area May 2007. Haven’t spotted it since, till today.
I also spotted a Blue Butterfly I’ve not seen before.

Swallows…
Set out today for a bit of a trek, headed towards farmland and took my rest once I’d reached the pastures belonging to the Farm…
There were no Spring Lambs, or anything in the immediate pasture, but I could make them out in the next field.
Nearer to the Farm buildings were a couple of Horses. But the Thrill of the day apart from me finally getting a photo of an Orange-tip Butterfly was seeing a family of Swallows gracefully swooping about in one of the pastures…

There'll be movie footage of the Swallows to follow, shortly. There's a couple of stills at the bottom of this post.
There will also be another podcast episode, as soon as I get a bit more organised.
