I decided to spend some of my Sunday trekking along the trail to the farm.
It was a glorious day, sunny and very warm. And perfect lighting for taking some photos. The fact that I took my tripod along proved my intent for some serious photography.
At the start of my trek back home, tired, fatigued and carrying a broken and as a result useless tripod, I heard some alarming birdsong.
I managed to see the bird, perched on a high branch squawking away. I couldn’t quite i.d it by its song, I reeled off some film, but could only manage to get its silhouette or it out of focus.
Both me and my tripod by now were tired and retired, so it was difficult to really concentrate on a bird situated high up, and to try and capture it with the right settings, before it flew out of sight, which it did then do. Alas I only got silhouettes in my photos of it, I had my binoculars, so I was able to see the birds plumage, and what plumage, it was a Goldfinch. I thought it must have been the pack of Swallows flying above and about the trees where the Goldfinch was that was alarming the it. And I would have left thinking that it was, or could have possibly been that. As well as taking some photos, I took some movie footage, but there’s a limit on my camera to how far I can zoom. Which isn’t that far, when compared to camera’s specifically designed for this purpose. But it was enough for me to see when I got back home, that the Goldfinch was actually shouting at some Alien Flies, it appears have returned! I spotted a big swarm of them a few trees down on my way home. They were swarming in and around the trees where the Goldfinch was. That explains the Swallows… they were obviously feasting on the Alien flies.
