Following the energy-sapping treck in twenty nine degrees I took yesterday, taking into account that it was my first jaunt that way for a few weeks, you'd think today was a logical day to just relax, rest my aching limbs and not go anywhere.
It was another glorious day, that I couldn't resist but be part of. I put off any chores, and headed out over to my local park, sat for ten minutes in the sun, and then walked to my local supermarket for a few items, and back to the park for half an hour of sunbathing. I then headed home.
When I was out walking in my neighbourhood on Thursday, I took a route that I had not taken for a few months. Basically, I just hadn't headed in that direction for a while, although I was missing it, due to the wetland that (for me) features there. Although overlooked by housing, therefore awkward to stop and investigate, it is still an attraction, to a variety of wildlife and to those of us who have an interest.
Unfortunatly the whole lot had been wiped from the face of the earth. The bulldozers were in and had taken over.
It was upsetting when a few months ago, further up the road from there, a large playing field had had the same treatment. I learnt to accept that, I'm sure the hundreds of kids and families who kicked or threw a ball around did to. But I guess new housing has to be built somewhere. But I don't want to get into that debate.
But to see this latest defacement of beauty was just gut-wrentching.
